I'm not sure if I should bring TA down. Two weeks ago I had high CYA (90) and brought it down to 40. Now it's down to 30 (most likely lower). My pH has been steady. Water is very clear. Weather has been hot and I've been putting in about 10 cups of liquid chlorine daily to get level to 7ppm. When no one is swimming and cover is on, I only lose 1ppm.

If I lower my TA, can I use pH down? (Yes, I know it lowers both TA and pH). Asking because I already have pH down.

My pH has been steady.
This is the primary reason most of us lower TA, to control pH rise. If your pH is steady, there's no reason to force down TA. Keep pH in range and enjoy the trouble free pool.

You should avoid the use of pH Down (dry acid). Consistent use will lead to a build-up of sulfates which can damage pool surfaces and equipment. Use muriatic acid instead.

interesting...I was told that liquid muriatic acid would be more harmful to vinyl than dry acid.....hmmm.....

I was told to add copper every 3 months to the pool hidden in algecide.

Then they'd ask me what I did to raise my copper levels.

Throw it all out of your head and start over. They don't know their rumps from their elbows.

The OP has a fiberglass pool.

You can use dry acid if you choose. If you ever decide to use a SWG, the build up of sulfates will eat away at the precious metals of the cell plates. When using MA, we recommend pouring a pencil sized stream in front of an active return to avoid damage to the pool surface.
