Liquid Chlorine
Greetings everyone! We got an above-ground pool last May. It came with a sand filter, which we switched out for a DE filter a couple of months ago. Was so tired of getting differing water sample results and different solutions for problems from people working at the stores. We had a terrible time getting rid of algae last Sept-Oct last year. I am very happy to have found this place and bought a decent testing kit to do this all myself.
I had been using shock packets but will be switching to liquid chlorine. There was some green starting on the bottom and clouds of it when I brushed it. I shocked the pool on 4/23 with 14 oz 73% cap hypo. Our pool is 9582 gallons.
Latest testing 4/24/22 (using the TF-100 kit).

It seems like SLAMing is in order, but how much chlorine should I have on hand?
After SLAMing, how often are you supposed to add the liquid chlorine (if I stop using the stupid pucks that keep adding the CYA to my pool)? Is it something you have to add like 10 oz a day or weekly? I know checking the pool daily is in order and that will help answer that but generally speaking if you don't have any chlorine going in the pool (via pucks) it seems you'd have to add it on a daily basis.
Thanks for any info and advice you can give!!!

You are correct! The SLAM Process will resolve your algae issues. Now that you have a proper test kit, your CYA of 60 would require a SLAM FC level of 24 as noted on the FC/CYA Levels. Before increasing the FC, be sure to lower the pH to about 7.2 with muriatic acid. Then start the SLAM Process and follow those instructions carefully. It works!

After you pass all 3 SLAM criteria, you'll let the FC fall to the normal range and test your FC just about everyday in the warmer/hot TX months. Winter you can spread it out a bit. Use only liquid chlorine for your SLAM. No more cal-hypo as you don't want excessive calcium in your pool. If you have any other questions let us know.
