Switching from Hayward to Pentair

I have had a Hayward ecostar for 4 years now and have had to have the drive replaced 5 times, all by Hayward, which has excellent customer service but I am getting tired of having to shock the pool because the pump is down. So I purchased a Pentair Intelliflo variable speed pump. I have it installed but I didn't think this out before hand. I have a Hayward pl-4 aqua logic salt water control panel which I do not think the Pentair pump will interact with, which I am fine with. My question is, how do I set up the salt water generator on the pl-4 to work since there will be no pump communicating with the control panel? Right now I have it set up on timers, so it is on at the same time the programmed timers are for the Pentair but that is not ideal. Is there a way around this I am not seeing or some way to get the Pentair to communicate with he aqua logic?

Thanks
