COuldn't find this anywhere - anyone have thoughts on going swimming in my own pool when I have a cold? Whole family has been fighting off a cold, but chlorine levels are all good in pool. Gonna be close to 90 today and we really want to get some use in before the end of the season.
Obviously not looking for medical advice, just wondering what people here think/have found out.

passing on germs ( i assume a non issue what with the good chlorine levels) or getting sicker from other germs (also assume a non issue due to good chlorine levels). just wondering if anyone here has done it and can say we do it all the time and it makes no difference, or if someone says dont because we always feel worse if we swim with a cold.

Personally speaking, when I have a head-cold, the very last thing I want to do is go into a pool. Since the cold is usually combined with a mild fever, hot tubs or spas aren't attractive either. The extra exertion of energy also robs your body of energy it needs to fight off the infection and so swimming while sick is generally not recommended (sorry, but that's a little medical advice for you ;) ). Disease transmission is really a non-issue since, as others have pointed out, you're all sharing the same viral infection and you're in a chlorinated swimming pool.

My recommendation - stay out of the pool, get as much rest and fluids as you can, rent a couple of movies on Amazon or Netflix and have a family movie-day in your pajamas.

If it's just a simple head cold I find a nice swim workout in a clean chlorinated pool perfect for opening up the sinuses. Better than a neti pot. I say go swimming and soak up some sun too, you will be better in no time.
