Sustain Chemicals in Skimmer

I currently use the Sustain Chemical system. Basically cause I am lazy and its just really easy to maintain. The system says its ok to place in the skimmer. My pool guy says its really not. Anyone have any opinions on this? Should I get one of the floating chemical dispensers and place it in there?

Pucks in the skimmer when the pump is off tend to make that standing water very acidic, so that once you turn the pump on again that very acidic bolus of water hits your pump and equipment all at once. It is hard on the gaskets and such.

Anything granular placed in a skimmer risks clogging pipes. No bueno!!

Also, if you have an in-ground pool cleaner... some of the designs uses a multi-zone valve has a flexible rubber membrane that can be damaged by high chlorine concentrations from shocking or leaving pucks in the skimmer. Ths can cause them to fail prematurely and need to be rebuilt often. If you have one of those in ground cleaners and you have to rebuild your values every year, that is indication that you should never put pucks in the skimmer; and also switch your pool to circulate (without the in ground cleaner) when shocking. Switching to a SWCG is the best lazy way to maintain your chlorine level, IMO.
