I actually used two surge protectors. A larger Eaton Utra2 on my main service panel, and a smaller Square D one on the pool panel.

Amazon.com: EATON CHSPT2ULTRA Ultimate Surge Protection 3rd Edition, 2.38" Length, 5.25" Width 7.5" Height : Electronics

Total was less than $150 plus an afternoon to install. Cheap protection.

@chiefwej - I happen to have that same larger Eaton Ultra2 surge protector lying around in my house and was considering installing it at the Intellicenter load center. Any thoughts as to whether or not that would be appropriate? Reading through the forum it seems like there are specific surge protectors to use and not sure if this is the right one for the job...

Any surge protector will work, sort of. Some protectors are better and more reliable then others.

The IntelliCenter Load Center is an electrical subpanel. Nothing special about that.
