So we have been fighting a bit of algae and a pump problem that was finally repaired yesterday. Oir 18,000 gallon pool isn’t totally green but the floor of the pool dusts up green. The chlorine is at 5 or more and doesn’t change after waiting and we kept it high while pump broken to fight more algae and it seemed to work. My issue is that the TA is 230 and the PH is at 7.5. The PH has been stable for days despite the high TA. think I need to lower the TA with diluted muriatic acid but how much? Can I use my dolphin to aerate after to raise the PH? Timing on everything appreciated. Newbie to avoiding pool store bc I think their advice is what caused the TA spike. Have five part test. Ordering the more expansive one! TIA.

Don't worry about TA if the pH is holding steady.
When pH rises and you adjust it down, then the TA will come down a little. Each time you do it, the pH will recover but the TA will stay down. Just be patient. You don't need to make any special effort.
What you do need to worry about is algae. If you've got it, get on it fast before it gets any worse.

Until your test kit arrives (I prefer the TF-100 kit) I would suggest using a gallon of plain, unscented, non-Clorax brand household bleach in the water daily and brush. Then when you get your test kit you'll have a better idea of what is going on in your water and get that algae out of there.

Yes I have been reading. I am all in here. So tired of the bad advice elsewhere. I can brush and add shock again tonight. I think if I sweep to waste and brush then chlorinate tonight we can beat the little bit of algae. If we do can we swim if the TA stays that high?
TA is primarily baking soda. People brush their teeth with it. It's in Toll House Cookies. TA is not a reason to stay out of the pool.

Excellent. It looked great this morning and chlorine still as dark or darker than 5.0 on my tester but when I went to brush both time today just the tiniest hint of green so I took your advice and added liquid shock again. We also have a chlorinator operating with tablets. Ph is rising slowly and I would say it’s around 7.7. Alkalinity is at 22 drops or 220 ppm. Should I add acid tomorrow or wait for ph to go higher?
Sounds like tomorrow it will be up to 7.8, so you can go ahead and drop it.
Do you know what the calcium hardness and cyanuric acid levels are?
