Substitute for Vinyl cement

I am looking for the pro grade vinyl cement (Stuff in a can with a dauber in the lid, like regular PVC pipe cement) to patch the vinyl liner...if i have to.
I am striking out at the LPS (local Pool Store). The phone answering people are not exactly knowledgeable.
I really don't want to get the tube stuff from the big box home center. But, may have too!
Is there a substitute for the cement?
Or is the homeowner grade stuff, just as good?

I eventually found some Boxer Adhesives #100 at the LPS.

My guess is the that summer help I talked to when calling around to locate something did not know anything.
