Stenner Decisions

Greetings everyone! I am looking into installing Stenner pump for liquid chlorine. Couple of questions.

Reading through old posts, seems like the trend is toward fixed rate Stenner pumps on timer to reduce injection time and wear and tear on pump. Most popular pumps seem to be 3 or 10 gpm. If that is the case, why not go to a higher rate pump and inject as fast as practical? I'm not finding much differential on the price of the pumps. If I am looking at chart correctly, the highest rate for 45/85 series pumps is about 3.5 oz/ min and even that doesn't seem excessive.

Also, a lot of discussion about rigging Stenner pump not to run if pool pump is not on. In the rare event the pool pump fails while the Stenner is pumping, what is the downside of the Stenner continuing to pump other than a slug of concentrated chlorine in the plumbing? Also, would probably catch it after 1 cycle.

You can go higher rate you just trade a bit of precision since timer will be by minute. For a 30,00 gal pool less important than for a smaller pool. If I had it to do over I would have ordered both my pumps with 10 gpm tubes when I reorder I will forgo the 3 GPM tubes.

Having the Stenner on a pump output is nice so it won't inject when the pump isn't running but many my self included don't have it set up that way.

Because I do both Acid and chlorine I do have my injection points at different points in the plumbing separated by as much distance as I could manage. Acid is on the Polaris line just before it goes under ground and chlorine is first thing after the filter. I dose acid in the AM and chlorine in the PM just in case I do get a "slug" of chems I don't think a massive dose of chlorine would cause any problem not sure about acid but I know I never want the two to meet at the same time.

A nice upgrade I did was adding WiOn switches I use those for my timers and they are app driven so adjustments are simple from my phone. WeMo makes the same thing at a slightly higher price point but it will work whit Echo WiOn does not.
