Starting up a Sand Filter after pool renovation

We are at the end of getting our fiberglass pool refinished and I was wondering is there a proper way to start up the filter again after we fill the pool. By the time this is done the filter will have been sitting and not run for just under a week.

Wondering if there was a good way to run it first, should I get water in and then backwash before running the filter? or something else.

If your multiport valve has a RINSE setting, then that draws water in from the pump and sends it out the backwash line. A few cycles of RINSE and BACKWASH should work.

If you can take the top off, then now seems like an excellent opportunity to do a deep cleaning of the sand filter.
