SLAM Process

Read it several times. Before you do, here is the basics so it clicks better.

1) you need your own accurate test kit. You need to test way too many times and the pool store simply won’t be open, even *if* their #s were good.

2). Find you CYA level and plan for SLAM FC accordingly to FC/CYA Levels

3). PH is invalid over 10 FC so you lower that before to 7.2 to allow the time it takes to SLaM and still be good throughout.

4) Maintain the elevated FC. The longer it stays at SLAM, the quicker it goes. Test/add every 2 hours is best. Do the best you can if it’s a busy day/days. Many folks limp along to the weekend and reschedule to have the time to hit it hard then. (Add 5ppm daily per PoolMath if you want to go that route). It will keep it from getting worse while you wait for more time to play.

5). Brush and vac daily. More if you have the time. Algae grows a biofilm over itself to protect it from the harsh environment. Each time you expose a new layer it does. There is no telling how many layers have grown. It will need many brushes.

6) backwash and/or clean the filter at 25 % rise in PSI

Keep us posted and we will happily fill in any blanks. (And Welcome to TFP)

Thanks Newdude,
I have all the necessary info cya , [email protected] Etc. Was wondering what to do with the SWG during slam. Leave on or turn it off for duration of slam?

Leave it off as it only adds a tiny amount per hour unlike dumping 2 gallons of liquid chlorine in. About the time that it will keep up on its own towards the end, you will need it off to Overnight Chlorine Loss Test at that time.
