My pool is surrounded by Mortex Koodeck as well as some stained concrete deck. The dark colored concrete was getting super hot, so I stained it a light color. The Kooldeck is showing its’ age so I am contemplating staining it also. I am curious if other users have any history on reduced cooling effect of staining Kooldeck?
For general information, I am adding data I took on a 100F day and no clouds, comparing Kooldeck vs Light Stain vs Dark Stain.
Kooldeck temperature averaged about 115F with an Infrared thermometer. The deck felt a little warm on my bare feet but I could walk on it with no discomfort.
The new light deck stain, Sherwin Williams 7716, averaged about 117F. The deck felt slightly warmer on my feet than the Kooldeck, with a little urgency to get where I was going.
The old dark stain, S-W 7525, averaged 133F. It was too hot to walk on.
