Sta-Rite motor died

Last week my Sta-Rite variable speed pump started making a lot of noise. I ended up discovering that the "permanent" magnet on the motor had come apart. Pentium tell me that since the pump was installed over two years ago (actually 13 months of operation) it is not covered. They tell me I have to buy a new motor, and then reassemble the pump myself.

I am reaching out to this group to see if anyone has experienced this problem, and possible solutions. If I get a new motor, that will cost me about $1000, or I could buy a new pump for $2000. Either way, that's a pile of cash for only two years guaranteed service.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Not sure what you are asking. Seems like you have identified your options, new motor or new pump.

It may be possible to rebuild the motor, but now likely DIY, and not clear if you have motor rebuilders in your area.
