Pool newbee. I just purchased a solar cover for my pool and cut it to shape. Problem is that the way my pool circulation is setup is that it flows from the SPA and over a small water-fall (really small) into the pool. I could cut a ginormous section of the solar cover out (I have cut some out already), but I'm curious what solutions people have done to prevent tons and tons of water from dumping on top of the solar cover. I have to imagine this is a common problem but I can't seem to find a solution.

Welcome to TFP.. A Great resource for all pool owners with spilling issues..
Why do you not shut off your spillover when the cover is on? Most pools have valves to do that..
Seems like running the spillover would have exactly the opposite effect as adding the solar cover, one cools while the other tries to retain heat..

Cutting out a section where the water hits is really the only solution. How much are we talking about. That's what I did but it wasn't much cover. Can you post a picture?

The way my pool is structured I have two choices. I can section off the spa (so it just circulates within the spa and no circulation in the pool) or I can run it through the spa and into the pool (all suction is from within the pool, but all new water flow is from within the spa). I don't seem to have an alternative that I can see but I'll look into it. However, even if I did -- wouldn't that prevent the water from the spa from being circulated?
I'll take a picture later and post. What I did in the short term is throw another piece of solar cover ONTOP of the the spillway and tucked under the main pool solar blanket. This keeps the water from spilling on top. Although I'm somewhat worried about mildew building up?
In my mind they would sell plexiglass shields that you slide into place for water to flow down into a specific carved out area of the pool cover. I'm seriously considering just making one myself (however time is my great nemesis).
