Solar Blanket

Hello all! Well, I finally opened my pool yesterday. Haha, yes, a bit late but surprisingly all is well and it's not a swamp. I bought a solar blanket this year that lays on top of the pool, not on the water. Then you stake the sides of the blanket to the ground with ropes. I have never used this before but my bubble solar cover started losing the bubbles, so I had to toss it.

There are no drainage holes and from what I can tell, water does not pass through it. Do you think I should put some holes in it, so that rain passes through? I don't know what happens when water accumulates on this cover? Anyone have this type of cover?

Any help is appreciated.

I've always had a solar cover that floated inside the pool and as we lift it off water and crud gets inside of the pool. I would think if you left 1/2 the solar cover staked into the ground you may be able to remove it from 2 corners and have the water follow suit. I think putting holes into the cover for drainage will let a lot of stuff fall into the pool.

I‘d be paranoid about the cover getting weighed down if rained enough and putting pressure on walls, due to the blanket being staked to the ground. Not sure that’s a valid worry or not!

I guess I am weighing the need to have to pump the cover all the time vs getting stuff/debris in the pool . I'm leaning towards putting some holes in the cover. Seems like the lesser of the evils right now.
Putting holes in the cover should work. I get a lot of debris on top of my solar cover and it does make its way into the pool. I don't have holes to drain water but pulling it off and putting it on it falls in. As long as you're OK with the possibility of a lot of stuff in the pool I see no problems. Heck, obviously my cover is contributing to my pool being dirty!😆
