Hey all,

My existing pump (Model 15UTMF-S2) was only working in "high speed" mode. Took it into a local electric motor repair shop to have them look at why the low speed wasn't working. $75 later they called me to say that the end bells were completely worn and that it likely wouldn't be worth them putting it back together and that it should be replaced....

So, that brings me here - I'm having a tough time finding a direct replacement (online anyway). So my question is basically how much to pumps vary between manufacturers? Can I simply replace a Carvin Magnum Force with any other 1.5 hp dual speed pump? For example, this one (FlowXtreme Pro II 1.5HP 2-Speed) is quite cheap:

It seems almost too good to be true compared to the prices I'm seeing anywhere else - is this going to just break down on me after one season? Can it even be a drop-in replacement anyway?

PS - before responding, please note I live in Canada, so sending me US-based links will not be helpful - between the current exchange rate and shipping costs (and COVID-19), it's not feasible for me to buy internationally right now.

Thanks!

That pump comes from China. Are you sure it is in stock?
It is for 1.5" pipes, is that what you have?
I have never used one of those so can't say for certain, but it says it is standard size. It should go in with little trouble. I have no clue as to longevity. Says 1 year warranty.

Not sure if they have it in stock. The estimated arrival on the website is Apr 2-8, so I'd assume they must have some stock in a warehouse somewhere. I don't usually open the pool until mid-May, so I'm not in a huge rush. As for the 1.5" pipe, I'm not sure off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure that's what I've got. Worst case I can get an adapter pretty easily

You can, but you may find it does not match the flow of your 2in pump. Check your pipe size before you order. It is always best to be as close to original as possible. Your pool system was designed for that pump, or ,more appropriately, that pump was selected based on your pool system. The closer you get to original, the better off you are in the long run.
