Morning y'all! Got a little issue with cloudiness and green water and hoped some experienced folks would weigh in.

Added about 2 inches of water from a hose with a new rv water filter attached on the 27th. All seemed fine chemically and with water clarity until I did my Sunday brush/backwash/rinse and vacuum. Losing about 2-3 in FC per day which seems average for summer in N. Texas. Lost a little PH (7.5 to 7.2) after adding water, but added the appropriate amount of washing soda and it bounced right back. Did discover this morning the cya level went from 50 to 60 ... I'm guessing from the new water added since we only use liquid chlorine.

So cleaned the pool and backwashed the sand filter yesterday and had considerable cloudiness that cleared for the most part with adding chlorine and running the pump overnight (it does seem to help keep the water cooler). Pics are from the morning ... still a bit cloudy and can't really see the green but there's definitely a slight tint to the water.

My thoughts ... 1) algae from running the pump at night not during the sunny day. 2) copper from the new water added reacting with the chlorine ..m don't know how high chlorine has to get but ours is usually around 3-4 when checking and I use pool math to get to 6 (will bump this up with the higer cya using pool math) .. 3) somethings up with the backwash or robot or something

This morning readings:
FC 4 (added 60 oz liquid chlorine per pool math)
Ph 7.5
CC 0
TA 50
CYA 60

Thanks yall! Appreciate you!

Fill water has no CYA; likely just testing inaccuracy on why you increased. Copper from fill water also not expected, though iron is possible, especially on well water.

Concerning that you're measuring CYA 60, but had FC 4, as you were under the minimum. Being under the minimum invites organics, which is the easy, and likely correct answer, for why your water doesn't look great.

Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to confirm algae.
SLAM Process to correct it.

A SWCG (salt water chlorine generator) would be very wise - most of us in Texas are using...

Thanks! Will do the OCLT tonight!

New to pool life and will definitely check out the SWCG!
