Slamming still dropping FC

Afternoon all. 5000 gallon above ground vinyl pool. 10" sand filter. I started the slamming process about 3 days ago, pool is crystal clear for past day+, very little on bottom, been following the process. I'm still dropping FC levels. Last night I was at SLAM level 20 and this morning was at 14.5. I went back up to SLAM level this morning and now I'm down to 8 and my CC is about .5
My CYA is 40-50 and pH is about 7.0-7.2

What am I missing??

Overnight chlorine loss of 5.5 is a lot. If it's crystal clear now you probably aren't that far away though.

Are you brushing the algae up off the bottom and brushing the sides? That helps put it into suspension so the filter can get it, plus breaks down anything clinging to the sides/floor so the chlorine can attack it.

Ok, I'll check again, Yes, I've been brushing the sides and bottom... Should I still go with the SLAM, my FC is 5.2 now at 8:30 PM EST, should I see how much it drops overnight or bump it to 20 again?

Keep your FC at SLAM level until you pass the three criteria as outlined in the SLAM process.

How does your ladder look? Have you looked under the treads and other nooks and crannies??
