I have SLAMMED the heck out of my spa but cannot close the gap between free and total chlorine and cannot get rid of chloramine odor. I’m ready to install a UV system. Worried that it is some chlorine resistant bacteria and will not go in spa until I can clear it.

Spas are often done better with water exchange, then refill, balancing, dichlor to achieve initial chlorine level, then chlorinating liquid after target CYA is reached. Then after a while, dump water and start over. When draining, use ahhsome to cllean out the pipes (this could be where organics are hiding)

Thank you for your reply. I was never a fan of ahhsome. Tried in the past and found SLAMMING to be far more effective. However - since it isn’t working now you are right that I should try ahh some or another purge product again.

If you have a cover on it, that would be one reason for the CC to not go away. How are you testing? The FAS-DPD test thats required for SLAM doesnt test TC but does test CC so want to make sure you have the right tools.

For this I have been using Leslie’s to test. I find their chlorine tests reasonably accurate. Then also test with a strip (I know-I’m not a fan of strips either but for TC and FC I find them accurate as well).

You cannot SLAM with a pool store test. This is likely the reason you’re having an issue.
