SLAM Question

First Shout Out to TFP!!!!
Been doing TFP for 3 years, since pool turned GREEN after pump died! 😩
Replaced Pump, Drained 1/2 of water out to get CYA down and Cooper out of pool, then SLAMED, it took 7 days, Pool has been CRYSTAL CLEAR for 3 Years!! 😁

The last 3 weeks we have been getting lots of rain, wind, and leaves blowing in pool, haven't gotten leaves out every day, like I should 😜, and I have had to drain lots of water over the few weeks have had to raise PH, TA, CH, & CYA, along with FC as needed
Here are my current readings:
Screenshot_20200616_213930.jpg
I am testing and bumping FC to 5 each night, approximately 24 hrs between each set of tests.
The last 3 days Chlorine has done this:
2 days ago FC = .5, CC = .5
1 day ago FC = 1.5, CC = .5
Tonight FC = 2.5 , CC = 0
So evidently I have had some contaminants or a small algae bloom that isn't tinting the water.

Oh yeah it has rained everyday, and will for the rest of the week it looks like.

Should I SLAM?

Thanks again for all the help everyone Is here!!

3 years and no green!

Have you always hovered around the minimum FC level or is this your concern, because something changed?

With a CYA of "42" you should consider it as 50. Either way, your FC levels are falling below the minimum to keep algae free. I think you should consider trying to maintain closer to the target FC levels of 5 or 6 not the minimums.

Thanks for the response

I always add chlorine to get it back to Target FC per Pool Math recommended Ideal Range
I am getting it back to 5~6 each night.
Right now It's going down to 2.5 (latest test), in ~24 hrs, haven't tested today.

BTW:
Does anyone else HATE the Chlorine Test Color and Ranges in the Taylor K-1000 Test kit, I always do the FAS/DPD test in the TF-100!!

Chris,

I have always done my pool a little differently until I got the SWG. What I would do was to add enough Chlorine to ensure that when I checked it the next day, that the pool was at recommended Ideal Range. The difference between you and me was that my pool was kept at ideal range or HIGHER to prevent algae bloom. You are treating the ideal range as your maximum FC level. I treated it as my minimum FC level. Does that make sense? Basically you are letting your pool drop down into the danger zone before you bring it back up. Mine was never near the danger zone. BTW... I never had to SLAM my pool when I did this.

Now I have a SWG that keeps my pool at a "steady" FC level. But I still do shoot for the top end of the ideal level.

Makes perfect sense!

Im straddling the the thin green line!

And, I may look into a swg!

THANKS

Started my grandson checking FC this year. At first daily checks with FAS/DPD to get familiar with where we need to be. Now he is on every third day, using color check 2 days just to ensure FC above 5. ( I occasionally verify when he isn’t around). Heh.
