I opened my pool a couple weeks ago. It was dark green, the worst I have seen in 18 years with pools. I was delayed in being able to start the SLAM because my pump was locked up. Broke two of the four bolts holding the motor onto the pump. Replaced the pump and motor and began the SLAM. The pool is at my soon to be retirement home so I am 75 miles away Monday thru Friday. The first week I commuted so I could test and treat twice a day. The pool turned from dark brown to a cloudy blue by the end of that 9 day period. Last weekend I kept the SLAM going all weekend. I put some chorine tabs in the pool when I left last Sunday. These were left behind by the previous home owner. The CYA was zero at opening. On Friday my testing showed:
FC 0
CC 0.5
pH 7.4
TA 100
CYA less than 30
Friday evening I added the required 10% liquid chorine to get back to SLAM level of 10ppm. Adjusted pH down and started aeration. By Saturday at 0800 hours the FC was back down to 3.5. I treated the Pool five times yesterday and tried to hold at 10 to 12 ppm FC. I added some CYA and it tested at 30 ppm this morning.
Here are my current numbers:
FC 10
CC 0.5
pH 7.2
TA 90
CYA 30
I have vacuumed and brushed multiple times. There doesn’t seem to be any leaves or debris in the pool. It remains cloudy but has cleared up enough where I can see the third ladder step down and I could barely see the second step a week ago.
Sorry for the long post but thought it would help to know what I’ve done to this point.
I plan to test and hold the FC between 10 and 12 all day today. What can I do to hold the FC up at SLAm levels between Monday and Friday? Should I just commute daily all week again. Thanks for any advice.
