Hi! I had a mild case of mustard algae, at least I think that’s what it was. For a few weeks we have gotten these yellow-brown spots on the bottom of the pool. They got worse 2 days ago and I noticed more of a yellow film along the bottom edges and more spots. So I decided to start a SLAM.
I started last night to the normal SLAM level of 16 for my CYA of 40. I added the chlorine and swept the whole pool. I noticed clouds of dust in most of the pool. My chlorine loss overnight was right at 1 ppm.
Today I have spent all day testing and keeping the FC level at 16-17. I brushed the pool this morning and only saw one spot. I brushed again this evening and no spots, no clouds of dust. Water is clear and no CC.
What a I want to know is, when do I bring it up to the mustard algae shock level? 24 hours of SLAM doesn’t seem like enough, but the pool passes all the tests right now. Maybe I didn’t need to SLAM in the first place?
When I bring the FC up to 24, how long do I keep it there assuming it looks good? Thanks!
