SLAM feedback

So I'm attempting my first slam after having my vinyl cover tear over winter and dumping a ton of leaves/dirt into the pool. Last week I had zero visibility in the deep end and very cloudy/dirty in shallow end. I was able to remove all leaves/branches/bugs etc. from the pool and most of the dirt. I can now see both drains in the deep end, but still have some dirt that is mostly settling in the shallow end. I've been brushing 2-3 times a day since Saturday and took my first test results Saturday as well:

FC: 1.5
CC: 3
TA: 90
CYA: 0
Salt: 1600
PH: 7.2

Added 3# Dichlor, results on Sunday:
FC: 3.5
CC: 3

Added 3# Dichlor, results Monday:
FC: 2
CC: 2

Yesterday finally picked up 12.5% bleach and CYA. Added 256oz bleach based on 0 CYA and 7# CYA to get up to 30:
0600 added 256oz and the 7#:
FC: 1
CC: 5.5

1700 added another 256oz:
FC: 3
CC: 5

2100 added another 256oz:
FC: 3
CC: 3

This morning at 0600 added 256oz:

FC: 3.5
CC: .5

Water is still somewhat cloudy, I'm guessing I should keep shocking at this level until water clears up since CC is .5? Was going to try the overnight test tomorrow again to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

If you added enough CYA to get it to 30, your shock level is 12. You need to maintain that level FC during the SLAM. However you added 6# of Dichlor which also added some CYA, so it might be closer to 40, which requires a FC level of 16 to shock.

After you add your bleach to hit shock level, test again in 15-30 minutes to see if you hit your target. If not, add additional to get there. You need to try and test as much as you can, even hourly, to maintain FC levels at shock level

Ah, good deal. I mis-understood the instructions, I thought we were only supposed to test/add once an hour. I'll try more frequently tonight after work and tomorrow. If I get CC to 0 there isn't anything in the water consuming chlorine though right? Just the sun?

Thank you! I've been shocking at 12 (256 is two full bottles which is easier than the level that 10 requires), was going to re-test CYA tonight or tomorrow after giving the water a bit to circulate. Maybe I'll bump it to 16 just to be safe.

If your water is clear, CC is less than 0.5 and OCLT is less than 1. Once water is clear and CC is less than 0.5, you can do the OCLT.

Also, you don't have to test more than every hour. I just want to make sure you hit your target after initially trying to bring it to shock level. It's common for people to estimate size of pool incorrectly, or their bleach to be weaker than it's labeled. Both of which could prevent you from reaching shock level, even though you think you are based upon Pool Math.

Today's numbers:

1030
FC: 19
CC: 1

1300
FC: 21.5
CC: 0

1600
FC: 16
CC: .5
CYA: 30-40

Haven't added any bleach today as I was over shock level the whole day. When does it make sense to up my CYA?

Here's a photo from this am. Hard to believe I couldn't even see the floor of the shallow end last week..

You don't want to raise your CYA until after your SLAM. Once your done, you can determine if your daily loss is enough to justify raising it. If you don't lose a lot (less than 3ppm) of FC then there is no need to raise it.
