SLAM done, what's next?

So I was having issues with FCL dropping randomly which indiciated I probably needed to do a SLAM despite the water not being very cloudy. Imagine my total lack of surprise when I failed the OCLT multiple times which indeed confirmed my suspicions. It took about 8 days and a lot of bleach, cleaning, etc., but I was able to pass the OCLT last night with a CYA in the 40 range and a reading at 9PM last night of 15.0 FCL and a reading at 4AM this morning of 14.0 FCL. I have put the pumps back to their normal schedule cycles and will let the FCL drop back down naturally over the coming days.

Over the course of the SLAM, I did clean my cartridge filters twice, with the first time having them coated in lots of grey matter which I assume was decaying algae or some sort. We continued to swim and it has been hot here with little precipitation which has required me to fill the level back up in my pool a bit.

My questions are this:
1) Assuming adding water lowered my CYA, which I can correct, but how soon can I take other chemical reliable readings considering I just finished SLAM last night?
2) Is there anyting else I need to be cognizant of as I go back to normal use of my SWCG once the FCL lowers to normal levels?

Thanks in advance - this forum is a life saver!

Footnote: I realized I was getting readings that made no sense near the end of my SLAM from the DPD test. I ordered a new kit and voila, readings made much more sense.

Remember that simply adding new water doesn't lower or dilute the CYA. Only exchanging water. You can test all other items except for the pH. Test the pH when the FC has fallen down to about 9 or below.

Start to increase your CYA to the recommended level of 70. That will help to preserve your FC. I always like to keep a gallon or two of liquid chlorine in the laundry room for FC emergencies should it fall rapidly for some reason.

Other than that, keep a close eye on the FC to ensure you're 100% past the organics issue. Enjoy the weekend. :swim:
