Skimmer Sock: Inside or Outside?

Just got some skimmer socks to try out.

First I put them inside of the basket and they seemed to restrict the water flowing over the top of the float.

Plus, I thought as soon as it gets a few leaves in there it will probably clog up the sock. So I thought, 'Wouldn't it be a great idea to have on the outside to create a 2 stage filter... the basket catches the larger stuff, the smaller stuff flows through the basket and gets caught in the sock...'

So I moved it to the outside of the basket.

This seems like a great idea... except that if it falls off it gets sucked down the tube. Which wouldn't be so great....

Does anyone have any thoughts on inside vs. outside?

Inside for sure, outside it will end up in your pump

I found my skimmer socks really restricted water flow when they got full. I ha e switched to hair nets and am much happier. So much cheaper and do just as good of a job

Hair nets for sure. On the inside.
