Skimmer Placement

This is a very rough 2D sketch. Reading on this forum it is recommended to have two skimmers with one opposite the prevailing wind and one opposite that (as I read it, let me know if I'm misreading it). In our yard, the wind is always East to West or West to East. The deep end of the pool is in the E-W / W-E wind tunnel and the shallow end receives little wind due to the house side and neighbors house.

Does it matter if both skimmers are in the deep end?skimmer placement.PNG

Hey there.... do you know where your returns are yet? They too play a part in moving debris to the skimmer.
I personally would move the Skimmer on the spa side much closer to the spa yet on the pool wall across from the sitting ledge.
Or the one on the opposite wall further up towards the shallow end.

What is the tree situation there for dropping leaves?? Will that be an issue for you? The wind *will* blow leaves in if possible.

I don't know what the solution is but I see anything in the shallow end hitting the bump and going off to no man's land.

Thanks for the feedback. I have to get with the PB to discuss the returns, looks like I'm getting ahead of myself on a single item placement when it's more of a whole system that needs to be designed out at once.

Neighbor on the side has some 15 year old pin oaks, back fence neighbors do not have any trees. I've forbidden the Mrs. from having anything that drops a leaf in the yard, so no issues there 8)
Then why does skimmer placement matter at all ? If there is no floating debris to be skimmed then there is no need for skimming and you just answered your own question. (y)

We just had the remnants of a Tropical storm and the bottom of 1 skimmer was covered. It was half a handful when I dumped it on the patio and It was more debris than I've had total since May. I studied the wind and made the best bet. 40% of the time it's wrong. 100% of the time it doesn't matter anyway.

For our yard, it's an E-W or W-E wind depending on the weather system coming out of the gulf. Half the time it whips through the yard like a wind tunnel due to the way the houses are backed up to each other. The houses funnel the wind it seems, so I'm for sure going to get the neighbors tree leaves in the pool. Also, what is not there now, is not a guarantee of the future. My luck, the back fence neighbors will put up a pine tree the day after the pool opens.

I appreciate all of the thoughtful feedback. This site is immeasurable in the knowledge transfer to allow people to go into a pool build with confidence!

True. Lol. So hopefully someone sees the best placement for whatever may come down the road. (y)

So here's what I'm thinking. Move the skimmers further down the deep end. Push the whole pool towards that bump in the middle where it will hook around left or right to the skimmers with no wind. When the wind blows it will hit one of them more often than not and the debris will hug either wall as it travels

Wind is blue, debris is green (or flip it for the other direction)
