hi, need some advice please
i am about to replace my pool pump.
i have a home that has 3 phase electric.
it would be cheaper to buy a standard single phase pump then a 3 phase pump.
soo can i replace with old pump that was 3 phase with a single phase without any issues?

If it is 4-wire 3-phase and the voltage from one of the legs to neutral is 120v or 240v RMS, then yes you can run a single phase motor off of it. So is it 4-wire and what is the 3-phase voltage?

sorry i am not well versed in electrics.
i know that i have a 3 phase home supply.
living in the uk we have a 240v supply.


you mentioned in your reply '4- wire’ .
i have never seen a 4 wire.
so googled it.

this is interesting. the old pump only had 3 wire ...earth/live/neutral and was plugged into the standard plug socket. this is making me think that the pump was single phase. does this reasoning sound correct?

Because you are in the UK I am going to strongly recommend that you have an electrician do this work.

Yes you can connect a single phase pump. However, someone qualified to evaluate what you have should examine it before making recommendations and doing the necessary work.

We can answer some questions but an on site electrician should evaluate existing site conditions before proceeding with the work.
 
I have 3 phase power and run my pool pump on it.
The fact that you have 3 phase in house does not mean it is extended towards your pool equipment.
Typically it is only used in ovens or other electrical heating or motor equipment.
The rest of your outlets provides regular power : 1 phase + Neutral (blue)

My pump runs with 3 wires but they are L1, L2 and L3 (brown, black and grey), Neutral is not needed in a pumpmotor

What leads you to conclude that your 3 wires represent Earth (ground), Live ( a Phase wire ) and Neutral ?

with your answers i dissected the issue
1) home has 3 phase as its a large home
2) but the outlets are single phase (standard 3 wire)
3) the pool pump is also single phase.
