While i get algae the filter cleaning process is nuts.

I think i want to cross over to a sand filter. Something quite and best bang for buck.

While im getting new stuff should i get a 2 speed pump with a sand filter?

A 1hp 2 speed pump will pair nicely with a sand filter, and should you decide you want a bigger pool in the future it will make the transition as well. I'm assuming this is a metal frame pool?

If you are getting algae, then your chemistry is the problem.

What test kit are you using?
What size filter do you have?

Please add your pool details to your signature as described HERE as it will help us help you.

A 2-speed pump would be a good upgrade, but if you do not get a handle on the chemistry you may be frustrated with the sand filter as well.

Your 100% right. I just ordered TF100 kit. Ive been using strips and its just not cutting it. Ive also been using pucks which ive read might also cause issues as well.
Hopefully ill be doing alot better after this kit.
If not i know definitely how to keep the water clean and clear. I just have a algae issue that starts back up every week.
I figured i can brush to stir it up for filter to catch and use algaecide to keep it down. My chlorine is on the higher side at the moment. If i can trap it and back wash it i thought itll be easier with a sand filter.

Ill update my info later.

I have a 150 sq hayward canister filter
And 1.5 pump thats not sounding to good.

Steve,

Algae will be trapped in any kind of filter but you'll never solve the cause and eventually algae will overcome the filter. Your only option is a SLAM to get rid of the breeding colonies and then maintain a properly balanced pool. You'll need the test kit to properly SLAM and you'll need to follow the SLAM procedure in detail. It only works if you do everything... which requires time and effort but then you'll be done with this problem for good so long as you keep your pool balanced. I'm quite certain you'll also find you don't need to replace your filter. As you go through the process this community stands ready to help with any questions or weird problems you may have.

I hope this helps and good luck to you!

Chris
