Should my motor have a cover?

Motor failed on my pump last year. Pool company replaced motor. See pic. Should this have a cover? Been bugging me forever but just discovering this forum.

Searched forever on Internet trying to find a part, etc. but no luck. Label on motor shows a Century Centurion B128 1HP Motor.

Thanks. Old one did. They left old cover resting against back which has gnawed on me since that it should be there.

I put a cover over mine.. do they require one? no But I spent a good chunk of money on it and I wanted it to run cooler with no sun touching it

Great idea! I've been meaning to build one from aluminum angle and box bar covered with plate or Sunbrella. But priority has been so low that I never get to it. Shade will certainly reducer motor temp and improve appearance. This looks very quick to install with just a couple of Tapcon's. I think I'll try one.
