The kids are not too old assuming they like to swim. You may need to urge them get out of the air conditioner and go outside though. If my kids want to sit on the ipad rather than swim I tell them okay but you're sitting outside with the family while you do it. They then flip flop between ipad, pool, throwing the ball for the dog etc.
I agree with tpup. My only .02 on that is you should consider what types of pools the neighbors have. If they are all gunite pools then I'd be apprehensive putting in a liner pool b/c the expectation is likely gunite. If they are mostly liner pools then that's the standard buyers should expect. Gunite would be a plus in that case. Good luck with what you decide!
