Is a saltwater easier to maintain? Should I stay away from the Intex systems? Any advice would help.

Those who have salt water generator (SWG) pool love them for the simple fact of not having to add bleach to the water each day. They do have an up-front cost of course. With a pool your size however, it's really a personal call. You shouldn't need much chlorine each day in such a small pool like that, so either way is fine. Many folks here have the Intex combo system and do just fine.
