Should I be worried about equipment noise?

New build going on and the original spot for the pool equipment won’t work (too slopes and close to the stream). My yard is sloped and the pool cuts into the slope. On the low side there is a stream, and the high corner puts the equipment well above the water line (5’).

Our remaining option puts the equipment close to the main deck area (7 o’clock in the pic) and I’m worried about being annoyed by it. It will be a variable speed pump and a heat pump.

Do small fences/plants shield the noise well?

My pool equipment is right next to a screened porch and also under the dining room window. The old single speed pump was very noisy when it was on - I used to schedule it to run for nighttime and other periods when nobody was on the porch. With a new variable speed pump running at about 1,500 rpm 24 hours a day, you have to struggle to hear it - I would not worry too much about it with a modern variable speed pump running at a relatively slow speed.

VS pump should be quiet as long as it is run at a low speed. Your signature says you are getting a 2HP VS900 pump. You should get a 2+ HP Tristar 950 SP32950VSP pump. The higher HP pump will let you run at a lower RPM and less noise.

You will need that when your HP is running since the HP will need a medium to high flow rate and the pump will be louder.

The HP will create more noise. Stand near your AC system condenser when it is running and see what the hum sounds like to you.

Small plants or fences will not do much to buffer the noise.
