Should I add stabilizer?

My CYA is 40. I have an SWG. In the winter I use pucks. Should I add stabilizer? I don't want to raise my CYA if I don't need to because I want room for movement using the pucks in winter. I'm trying to lower my pH also. When the temp was higher I was getting calcium flakes so I am trying to prevent that. I have added about 30 oz of acid each day for two days and the pH hasn't moved at all.

Thank you,
Mary

If you are able to maintain the FC levels throughout the day and are not concerned with the expedited demise of your SWCG cell, no issue.

I would suggest you test the FC at various times during the day, assuming you are generating chlorine during those times.

Have you considered using LC in the winter instead?

Maintain a slightly negative CSI between zero and -0.3 to prevent flakes and SWCG scale.

How are you testing?

I would be too worried about keeping up with using liquid chlorine in the winter. I often leave for work in the dark and come home in the dark and also don't want to be out in storms and rain. With pucks, I know my pool is getting the chlorine it needs without me having to remember to do it or battle the elements. I have the tf Pro salt kit for testing.

I got my test kit a few days ago and have tested every day since getting it. The FC has stayed around this level for a few days. I decreased my salt cell from 50% to 25% a day or two ago and will continue to test to see if it makes a difference. What am I doing that is bad for the salt cell? I'm new to all of this, so I'm not sure what levels are optimum for everything including the % for the salt cell.

In the winter, you can get away with adding liquid chlorine roughly once a week. Super low maintenance.
