Seeking feedback on a pool quote/equipment

Hey,
Im new to the forum and although we had an i/g pool in our last home, we didn’t put it in & don’t know much about equipment etc. We got a pool quote from a reputable pool builder in our area and am just looking for feedback so we don’t make a silly purchase.

Our last pool pool was a standard chlorine pool but we’re considering a swg for this one just because it seems a bit healthier for our very young children as it has less ppm chlorine- but I’m concerned with corrosion of pool equipment and this pool will have steel walls, concrete floor & vinyl liner. Coping and surrounding pool deck will be concrete. Any tips appreciated!
I attached the quote with the details in pool equipment & a pic of our yard finally sodded (the before)

My 0.02 -

First off - you can check prices at Pool Supplies Canada
Keep in mind that PB includes a margin and install cost in their prices - and some equipment sellers will not give full warranty if diy install - pentair comes to mind

From what I just went through - please consider the following in random order:

1. Main patio? - that's $14/sqft stamped concrete - I always thought that it gets slippery when wet - I only see pool surround and coping. A good size pergola is 12x12 ( under $2K at costco.ca ) - maybe give you a point of reference for your pool deck area

2. Your pool size is 14x28 - mine was 12x26 - and I went with fibreglass - went with Dolphin Pools ( Ontario based company ) - I would suggest looking for a quote with fibreglass - it might surprise you that it is not that more expensive - your location might not need a crane ( save the $2k )

3. Don't see automation? or control panel for equipment

4. No heater? Going to be cold - I tried :)

5. Never saw the need for step ladder in small pools

6. $48.8K is just a starting point - Gas ( only if you get a heater ) - averages $2K for 40ft; Electrical - averages $1k for 40 ft; Site restoration ( if required )

7. Debris containment might go up - 20 cubic bin is around $500 I think

8. Try to get 4 jets if you can

9. 2 LED multi color would run around $1500 - pentair

10. Not sure for vinyl, don;t you need a main drain at the bottom? for fibreglass, I have 2 on the side ( and the skimmer ) - I'm thinking it is for when you're vaccuming - that someone else can comment.

Hope this helps, but let me know if you want to know any specifics

Hi, welcome to TFP! Main drains are not required, and can be problematic over time. I might ask if they could divide up those payouts a little more evenly. A 3K balance doesn't give you much leverage if there are a lot of items on the punch list to complete, or you are not satisfied with any of the work.

Even if you don't get a heater now, ask them to add plumbing for it in case you decide you want one later. Also ask for unions between major pieces of equipment. It makes them much easier to service down the road. Some builders like to make that equipment pad as tight as they can get it, which is fine until you have to cut up all the pipes to swap out a pump motor.

Welcome to the forum! :handshake:

A salt water pool is a chlorine pool and a chlorine pool has salt in it.

The actual Free Chlorine levels in a Saltwater pool are normally the same or bit higher than a pool chlorinated with Liquid Chlorine. That is because having a higher CYA is best to have when using a SWCG.

A saltwater pool is no more corrosive than any other pool, as long as you manage the pool water chemistry. Uncontrolled pH will destroy/corrode metal items, no matter what you use to chlorinate.
