Season 5 Leak

So thanks in large part to this site, I've had 5 relatively "trouble free" pool seasons with all my major problems caused by my own laziness and ignorance in the very beginning. But now . . . I have a leak. I didn't do a bucket test because it's pretty obvious that there is a leak. It just hasn't been hot or windy enough in the last week for me to lose all the water I've lost. Last year, I think I added water once. If anything, I found that I needed to drain off excess more than usual. This year, I don't think it rained any less, but even if it did, I've had to add water 4 times in the past 3 weeks, and that is definitely a new and sudden thing.

The disturbing thing is that I don't know where the water is going. I have no puddles, but I think I have very slowly sinking concrete decking around the (fiberglass?) stairs in the shallow end. Anyway, we're set to close in a couple weeks, and I feel like I need to get this fixed before we put the cover on. And let's assume my wife would rather pay a leak detection company now than wait for me to do all the research necessary to investigate myself. Before I call them, anyone think it's possible that this crack in my top step could be the culprit? If so, what is likely under there? Can water flow through that and then set up under the liner? Assuming I should patch that once the water drains to the next step and the first step is dry, what do I use?
