I need help! Thanks to this site, I have been able to fire my pool guy to do the water maintenance. However, the motor is now making a screeching load sound when it is running. It is pumping water through the filter. We bought this house about 1 yr & 1/2 ago. I didn't build it. It's been here since the 80s as far as I can tell. The equipment was replaced since. The motor supposedly was replaced 3 or 4 years ago. From searching here, it sounds like it may be the bearings. The first pool guy that has come says I have to replace the motor. He's also quoting me an exaggerated price since I've looked it up online and I can buy the same one for under $300. I need to know what I should be asking and what to be aware of. Also, should I be considering a variable speed? Let me give you some I idea of what I have (as best as I can tell).
Pool: 30K gallons (no spa)
Filter: Hayward (Blue Haven Pools), 4 cartridges
Pump: Hayward (SPA020X252NC), can't really tell anything else, very large filter basket compared to what I used to have in my old home
Motor: A.O Smith 7-193687-02, 2HP
Cleaner: Dolphin M5 Robtic cleaner
Location: Dallas, TX (we don't winterize, run about 5 hours in winter, up to 12 hours in the heat of summer)
Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
