Hello!

I bought my home last year and spent the end of last summer learning to keep my water balanced. This year, apparently the need for maintenance and repair starts!

When I use filter mode or recirculate mode, I get sand in my pool. So I started researching to find out whether this is something I can do or something I need to call for help on. I've read all about removing the sand and checking the laterals, but I can't find anything about my filter specifically.

I have no idea when it was put in. It's a dark brown tank, Pac-Fab Triton (not Triton II, though it looks similar) Permanent Media Water Filter. Model TR-60, Serial TR 31727. I've done a lot of searching and I can't find anything! I'm nervous to try and open it up without knowing anything about what I'm doing. I'm also not finding anything in the garage that looks like it can/will open the top up.

Any ideas, or should I just call in the professionals?

If sand is getting in the pool, a lateral is broken or popped off. Basically have to shopvac all the sand out and inspect it. Might also want to check the spider gasket inside the valve assuming its like a normal triton filter.

Okay, awesome. That was what my plan was initially based off my research. But when looking for laterals, I realized there was nothing out there for my specific filter. Would I just go with everything from a Triton II and see if it fits?

I did order an o-ring and gasket set with a spider gasket and that I was able to match to my valve, so I know that is right. I'll start there.

The local company with its name all over everything closed in 2005, so I can assume that the bulk of my equipment is at least 20 years old or older, though the pool liner was replaced recently.

Not sure on the exact fit, seems like a decent plan. But it may just have come off the stand pipe so maybe inspect before spending too much money. If the filter housing isnt weeping from the shell and you can find replacement parts its fine to keep using it.

Pac-Fab Triton is now the Pentair Triton 2 after Pac-fab was purchased. Still using the same parts. The Pentair 154512 dome wrench will remove the top. Amazon, about $21.00.
