Sand filter spraying!

Help! We closed our pool for the first time by ourselves last fall. I was excited/nervous to open it. All was going well until water hit the sand filter. It’s spraying out. I’m hoping this is an easy, quick fix we can handle ourselves.

Did you leave the valve in winter setting/position while pool was closed? did you drain it as well?

We left it in the winter setting and did drain it

Look like the seal on the MPV needs to be replaced. Might tear it down, inspect and rebuild with new o-rings etc.
