hi, what is the normal "clean" value for this gauge?
i assume it is a PSI meter?

I've never fully understood how to use it. I seem to recall it goes up as filter gets dirtier and this calls for backwash.

anyone know if there is a average range for "Clean" and "needs cleaning"?

It depends on the specific hydraulics of your system design. In mine, for example, clean pressure is around 15-16 at full rpm (though I have a variable speed pump.) So anything 25% above clean pressure, eg, in my case, 19-20 psi, means time to backwash.

So give your filter a good backwash and rinse and then record the pressure. Then in general, multiply by 25% increase to know a good rule of thumb for a psi to clean would be.
