I have an intex sand filter on our 48” x 18’ pool. On the pump outlet (for waste), I have the garden hose adapter and use that when backwashing and rinsing the filter bed. It always seems to work as the filter pressure always drops into the middle of the green on the gauge after doing so.
However, after backwashing for 5 minutes and rinsing for at least a minute and even up to 5 minutes, it still initially will blow a bunch of really dirty water into the pool for a few seconds after turning it back to “filter”.
Is that garden hose adapter too restrictive to allow a good rinse? Will it blow out some of the sand bed from the filter if I take off the garden hose adapter and rinse using a 1 1/2” hose?

Is it the 3/4 HP 3000gph filter?
I used to run into same issue with mine and after some searching, it seems the recommendation is to backwash then rinse 3-4 times until you see clear water on the last backwash. I've been doing it this way this summer and have not seen noticeable amount of dirty water go back into pool when switching to "filter"

As for your hose size question, I think you'd be a lot better off using a larger 1 1/2" hose, but it may not fix your issue.

It’s an SX2800, so I assume it’s 2800 gph pump and filter. When you say rinse 3-4 times, do you mean just rinse, shut it off to let things settle, then turn it back on right away? I will give it a try.
It seems like the amount of water that would be pumped out with a 1 1/2” hose would drop the water level very significantly and possibly take a lot of sand with it as it’s not stopped by the laterals in the filter. If anyone has done it successfully that way, I’m willing to try, but I’ll try the 3-4 rinse first!. Thanks!
