I had my above ground pool installed last year. It came with a Hayward S180T sand filter. Since I got it, I’ve always noticed an amount of what I thought was sediment on the pool floor. Always coming back within 20-40 minutes after manually vacuuming. I convinced myself it was environmental. It was very fine and would wash away with a hint of water wake. Earlier this week I noticed the sediment actually began to look like sand, and more of it. I started to look into the possibility it was filter sand. I put a sock over the return and ran it as I normally would and there was no sediment in the pool. I changed out the umbrella lateral assembly and put new HTH pool sand in. I started to look at the old assembly and the only issue I could find was the area around where the stand pipe meets the base. Half is sealed with a sealant, the other half has no sealant. The picture is the gap between the base and standpipe. Could this gap be the cause of the sand entering the pool? If this new lateral assembly doesn’t fix my issue, I’m coming back to TFP to find a new filter. I don’t enjoy cleaning my pool every other day!
