Sand bottom for in ground pool

I'm having a vinyl liner inground pool installed. I am in SW Georgia.

Apparently, the price of Palmetto poolcrete has increased and the builder wants to put in a sand bottom instead, not sure if it's just sand or a mix. Should I be concerned?

Thanks!

I am not a pool construction expert, but sand bottom for IG vinyl pool is okay, hopefully they give you the appropriate cost adjustment.

Make sure they level & compact it so there is no settling later on.

I would push for poolcrete or vermiculite, especially if that is what you were quoted. Too easy to put footprints and other divots in a sand bottom, which show up like moon craters at night with the light on. Bottom of a vinyl pool will never be perfect, but I would worry that a sand bottom would look beat up long before you need a new liner.
