Hello,
I took over from my pool guys and started taking care of my own pool with liquid chlorine about 2-3 months ago and it is crystal clear thanks to TFP. Now I hope this forum can help me understand if I can salvage an old Jandy AquaPure 1400 SWG power center and switch to SWG.

I bought this house a year ago and noticed that there is a disconnected Jandy 1400 SWG power center attached to the back of my Hayward Command controller. I was able to follow the wires from the AquaPure to disconnected wires in the pool breaker panel. It looks like the pool was converted to non-SWG as there is currently no cell at all and the wires that used to attach to the cell (power and sensor) have been cut. I know these wires come included with a replacement cell kit so this is fine.

My questions are:
  1. Can I connect the disconnected AquaPure wires to the pool pump breaker? The breaker is double-pole 15 amp each. I want to see if this thing powers on at all.
  2. If yes, can I leave the configuration like this? I have a Hayward VSP pump if that matters. I don't want to deal with connecting the AquaPure wires to the Hayward relays due to the wires not reaching that far and also the complication of mixing brands. I think this would mean the AquaPure would always be powered on? Is the cell flow sensor enough for the SWG to know when to be on/off?
  3. I posted a picture of the straight pipe right before the pool/spa return. Is 15 inches enough to insert a newer Jandy AquaPure 1400 replacement cell?
  4. Should I just abandon this thing and go for something like a Circupool SWG? Jandy 1400 replacement cells are about $900 so I could save a bit a money salvaging this power center.
I appreciate any assistance, thanks!

You should not solely rely on the flow sensor switch in the cell. It should be tied into your system so that if the pump is off, the SWG is also off.

That said, this is an old version of the APUREM. It might or might not work. You would need to purchase a non-returnable cell to fully test it. For me, I would 100% go saltwater but I would not use any of the old parts.
