I have a Circupool salt system that is a couple of years old. Since I've had it, I've had more than one pool store tell me that it's still ok to put stabilizer in the skimmer as recommended by the stabilizer manufacturer. On the other hand, the instruction manual for the salt system says I should not. Consensus on whether it's ok or not? I have a HECK of a time getting it dissolve if I just add it to the pool and am even afraid that my failure to completely do so led to the premature discoloration (and expensive replacement) of my previous liner. Thanks in advance.

The way I see it, there is never a good reason to purposely put acid through your equipment.
Hang it in a sock in front of a working return, carrot on a stick like. Some time later or even tomorrow, it will squish right out. Have too much, use multiple socks. I pour mine on the chest of a tshirt, then sack it up, tie it up, then hang that.

Like above, dont put it in the skimmer and dont just sprinkle it around in the water.

I put the CYA into a Ladies Knee-High Stocking.. It works great for me.. The neck of the stocking acts like a rope to hang the stocking over a return.
Squeezing is the real key, after about half an hour of being in the water.

I was told to put it into a sock and put that into the skimmer. But it is strange that the bag says to just pour it into the skimmer.
If you just pour it the skimmer the bulk of the granules will end up in your filter. If you have a cartridge filter that is just fine, but will probably take several days to fully dissolve there. If you a sand or DE Filter it will do the same as long as you don't backflush before it dissolves.
I stretch a skimmer sock in my skimmer then add the stabilizer to that. It's usually all dissolved in a few hours, no squeezing or other mucking about required. (I also only add about 8oz at at time, too much and you can block the flow).

Please to not pour CYA granules into the skimmer. Pouring granular CYA into the pool directly, or into the skimmer as recommended on stabilizer bottles, is not recommended as it can restrict flow if clumped in a pipe and damage a pump, takes a long time to dissolve and the granules can sit against the pool surface creating locally low pH levels.
