Hello,

Wondering which winter safety cover type (mesh or solid) is more resistant to dog nails from a dog running across it? Try as we might, we can't get our dog to stop running across it from time to time.

Right now we have a CoverLogix (Latham) 1000V solid with center drain panel but it's about 10 years old and needs to be replaced. Wondering if we should go back with the same thing or switch to one of the super dense mesh covers.

Thanks!

Solid will do better but a sharp claw will win no matter what. I got the mesh safety cover so the dogs didn't fall through the ice, but the Basset was death gripping the cover for traction and ripping it, so I had to build a fence to protect the cover that protected the 🤬 dogs.

I used snow fence with stakes and 5 gallon buckets filled with cement to hold the stakes on the patio side. They were easily tipped over so I had to build braces for them to keep them upright.

@Newdude thanks! I did see your comments in other threads and then saw someone else saying the exact opposite so was curious what the group consensus was.

I have a mesh safety fence we put up when the pool is open but I take it down in the winter because I'm worried about damage. Might have to do something like you have that I'm not worried about being damaged.

I also have a tendency to accidentally kick my dogs ball right into the middle of the pool which doesn't help haha.

Got some pricing for Mesh vs Solid covers and the prices are comparable (solid a few hundred more). Is the consensus to go with solid? Interested in any other opinions.

@Newdude What brand do you have?

I went with Looplock dense mesh. If you hold it up to the sun, you wouldn't know it's not solid. It takes a while to drain after it rains, sometimes hours, but it does drain into the pool.

I'd say we are split down middle. In my case I have a big cover and DIY so the weight was my biggest issue. The lighter cover is akward enough to carry/manage.
