'Rust' Stains in New Plaster?

Hello - Just had our new pool filled yesterday. We are new to pools in general, so of course every little thing catches our eye.

Plaster is Wet Edge Luna Quartz Bermuda.

This afternoon we noticed a dozen or so "rust" spots on various horizontal surfaces, mostly bench and steps. I don't believe they were present prior to water. Any thoughts?

Welcome to TFP! Could be just about any type of iron residue that landed in the pool post-build and wasn't caught. Normally builders add some sequestrant to contain metals. Yours didn't? You're not on a well there are you? Speak to your builder about it. A few small spots you should be able to rub a Vitamin C tablet on the spot and it should go away. But communicate with the builder first so they know the situation.

Are the spots only on horizontal surfaces? When the picture is expanded I can see quartz in the center of the stain that makes me think it may be from impurities inside the mixture of plaster.

I am on a well, but we filled out of a water truck. I'll be sure to try the vitamin C tablet trick.

The spots ended up disappearing on their own within a couple weeks. I bought the Vitamin C tablets but didn’t use them. I’ve been diligent on my chemistry, I’m assuming that has helped.

Probably organic stains maybe tannins from trees or shrubs nearby.

You didn’t have to scrub or add any chemicals to remove?
