I'm pretty sure this is from pool chemistry ignorance (my calcium was too low for too long and pH too high over the winter). Question is, what's the better method for removal - acid wash or sanding? I've read negative things about both so I guess I'm looking for the best combination of ease, cost, and least destructive.

I haven't tested yet. It's half empty. There was a leak at one of the returns in the deep end. These pics are from the shallow end and, yes, the whole pool is like this. I'm most concerned about the shallow side since that will wear everyone's toes raw. I want to immediately smooth that out and attempt to rid the deep end via the low pH/brush method. Are there other issues that scale can cause just by being present or will proper water maintenance put a halt to it?
