Robotic cleaner for pool opening?

Hello Everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've learned a lot from this forum in my 12 years of pool ownership so thanks to everyone who has posted throughout the years.

With that out of the way...

I have a polaris pressure sweep that I'm very happy with. I mostly get debris in my pool (bugs, leaves, sticks), and it picks it up fine. However, I still need to manually vacuum my pool when I open it in the spring because the polaris isn't very good with dirt and dead algae. I normally do at least one round of "vacuum to waste", and then another hand vacuum to the filter when it's mostly clean. As I'm getting lazy in my old age, I'd like to not hand vacuum anymore.

I'm wondering if a robotic cleaner might eliminate the need for hand vacuuming. I've seen a few comments on Amazon saying they're great for maintenance, but not so good for really dirty pools, and my pool is usually pretty dirty in the spring. I see a lot of positive comments in this forum, but there seem to be a lot of year round pool users so maybe you're all mostly just doing maintenance cleaning, and not "clearing the swamp" (it's actually not so bad in the spring anymore since I switched to a pool company that actually applies the winter closing chemicals I pay for).

I think I'd only use the robot for spring opening, and then only occasionally during the swim season as the polaris has been doing the job (and I have a more booster efficient pump so it's not that expensive to run), and I'm not a fan of leaving the robot in the pool all week (and, being lazy, don't see myself hauling it in/out every few days). I'd store it in my garage when not in use - I have plenty of room. Perhaps I get more years out of it (lazy, not rich).

I'd like to hear folks opinions on this...

Thanks in advance,

SDor

No I don't think you'll have much luck with that. They work great for maintenance but not for that good cleaning they need around here. It would probably be better to find a service that will do a one time spring vac job.
