I have Pentair S7M120 filter (photo attached).
The cartridge filters inside are aging.

Is it possible to use DE filters in the future? What retrofit in plumbing needs to be done?

I don’t think it practical to do so but we’ll see what those with more knowledge of the inner workings say.

As long as the pool is running properly, most people are quite happy with their current filter type. Why are you interested in changing the type of filter? Water clarity should be the same for all intents and purposes between those two. The only difference is a few less floaties seen in the pool at night with the light on, which is inconsequential.

I dont like talking out to clean the cartridge filters. The backwash of DE filter sounds easier.
Gotcha. I only do mine once per year using hairnets and with it being big. Are their DE disposal regulations in your CA jurisdiction?

If you want to try and catch the DE for disposal, you'll need a slime bag or a separation tank or something. You're also going to need to cut pipes to install a backwash valve. And at least once a year you'll want to open it up to do a thorough cleaning. If a cartridge filter is too much work, you'll hate cleaning a DE filter.
