Hi all! We had a painless opening this year thanks to TFP! But I'm seeing some residue that could be DE? We also saw it last year. It's a 15000 gallon in-ground vinyl pool. The cleaner gets most of it, but why is this happening? Photo attached. The residue in the photo is on/near the steps. The water is balanced, so it doesn't seem to be a function of that. Thank you for any advice!

One jet is on the opposite wall, but that residue keeps happening all over the pool floor. I just happened to take a picture of that area (plus I just ran the cleaner and that was a spot it missed)

Normally when we see DE on the floor, we think of a problem with one of the filter grds/fingers or manifold. Unless it was over-charged recent;y, you may need to open up the filter and give it a through inspection.
Thank you. By overcharged, do you mean I put in too much DE when I opened the pool? That's possible.

Correct. Too much DE means there's not enough grid surface for the DE to adhere to in the filter. But if you haven't charged it lately, it could be a grid tear or bad connection.
Thank you so much for your replies. If I backwash, and don't add more, would that help? If so, any thoughts on how long to backwash for?

Honestly I don't. If you had too much DE, it would depend on how much. If you decide to do a few backwashes, be mindful that your chemical levels may also change.
